Admission Requirements
- Completion of 100 hours of volunteer or professional experience in
a helping role in an educational and/or human services setting.
- Psychology prerequisite coursework (18 quarter/12 semester hours)
that includes completion of three prerequisite courses: theories of
personality, abnormal psychology and developmental psychology with a
minimum grade of C. (If you completed the three named prerequisite courses more
than 10 years ago, you must retake them.)
- Art prerequisite coursework (27 quarter/18 semester hours) including
work in both two- and three-dimensional media, such as ceramics, metalsmithing,
painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture.
- Portfolio demonstrating multiple media competencies with 20 representations of your work in slide, print, CD or DVD format. A brief descriptive list is recommended. Size of the portfolio should be no larger than 8-1/2 x 11".
- Two letters of recommendation: one from a professional who has provided
oversight of your practical experience, and one from a social science
instructor who can best assess your capabilities and readiness to enter
graduate clinical training. If you have not enrolled in a college course
in five years, two letters may be submitted from professional supervisors.

Admission Essay Instructions
Submit a typewritten, double-spaced essay with your application. Please
write a one- to two-page response for each of the following questions
and clearly number your response to each question.
- In what ways has your academic and practical experience prepared you
for becoming a counselor/therapist? What do you see as your potential
strengths and areas of growth as a counselor/therapist?
- In what ways has your life history and personal experience contributed
to your desire to become a counselor/therapist? Have you engaged in
your own personal counseling/therapy? If so, do you see this as an important
component toward becoming an effective counselor/therapist?
- What will be the areas of greatest challenge for you in undertaking
graduate study at this time? What forms of support will you use to meet
those challenges?
- Which clinical program are you interested in at this
time? How do you see this program as best meeting your needs?
- In your view, what are the connections between the creative processes of visual art and cognitive, emotional and psychological functioning?
Transfer Credit
You may transfer
up to 12 quarter
credits of prior
graduate-level
coursework.
Provisional Admission to Clinical Programs
This option allows you to be admitted into a pre-master's
status when the requirements related to the academic prerequisites
are in progress. If admitted provisionally, you have two quarters
to complete your psychology prerequisite requirements at Antioch.
If you are provisionally accepted to art therapy, you have four quarters
to complete the art prerequisite requirement. Upon completion, you
will be fully admitted into one of the M.A. clinical programs.
Because space for provisional admission is limited, the process is highly
competitive. To be eligible to apply, you must have completed at least
