1) I've been working for over thirty years. I've got a lot of skills. Why do I need to go to school now?

In this time of transition updating your skills and examing how they will work in a new context will give you increased momentum. You will also meet other people like yourself going through this transition along with community experts and univeristy faculty, both of whom will provide the support you need to negotiate this stage.

2) Why should I pay for this program; I can volunteer lots of places?

This program prepares you to fill a professional staff role in a nonprofit with supervision from the executive director or senior staff member (depending on organization size). You will not be paid during this period of internship, but you will be learning how nonprofits operate, networking with other professionals in this sector, having an influence on this organization based on your previous experience and making a difference. In addition, this program provides mentorship from a faculty member of the Legacy Leadership Institute on a monthly basis with the other program participants so you can deepen your learning and expand your network. This is valuable on-the-job learning that is not available in most nonprofits.

3) Will my company pay for the program?

Some companies such as Boeing and Microsoft do pay for their employees to enroll in programs that have continuing education units or a certificate as part of it. Legacy Leadership Institute offers both. Ask your employee about tuition reimbursement benefits.

4) I've already tried to volunteer and it was a waste of my time. I didn't feel appreciated or well used. Why should I try again?

Forward looking nonprofits are looking to change the way they recruit and retrain professionally qualified volunteers. The 15 nonprofits who are working with Legacy Leadership Institute are participating in part of the training in order to learn about better ways to manage professionals like yourself interested in community service. You will have a supervisor, a work-space, and set goals and performance measures for your service that draws on your skills and talents. We think it's worth another try.

5) 250 hours! That's a lot of time. I'm giving up working full time. Is it flexible?

Our nonprofit partners are eager and willing to provide you a flexible commitment that fits your schedule and needs. When you're working at a project you're good at with others who care about the same cause, you will find the time well-spent.

6) What is Leadership Tomorrow?
