Carol Sanford holds a B.A. in Industrial Economics from the University of California-Berkeley and an M.A. with emphasis on business, community and social/urban systems development from San Jose State University. She has taught at San Jose State University and Washington State University, where she was also program director for the Strategic Leadership Institute.
Sanford has more than 30 years of global experience helping businesses and organizations position themselves strategically, develop leadership to execute strategy and redesign work to gain and keep competitive advantage in the marketplace and community – all with responsibility for the whole system. She has led major consulting efforts in both Fortune 500 and new economy businesses such as Colgate, DuPont, Weyerhaeuser, Boeing, Sharp Electronics and Intel and businesses that have led the development of corporate responsibility such as Seventh Generation. Sanford has published more than 100 works that have been translated into 10 languages, including several articles on executive excellence in Stephen Covey's newsletter.
Donald M. Nolen has been a professor of philosophy and religious studies for over three decades. He obtained his B.A. and M.A. in philosophy from Baylor University and did advanced work toward his Ph.D. at the University of Illinois. His focus has been on practical ethics, particularly business ethics, computer ethics and health care ethics. He has taught at the University of Illinois, Parkland College, Eastern Illinois University and Baylor University.
Six years ago he developed "The Ethics Institute" at Parkland College which focused on workshops, seminars and moral development programs for businesses, nonprofits, educational organizations, churches and health-care organizations. He has presented and directed programs to a wide variety of local, state and regional organizations focusing on ethical issues in organizational development, conflict management, critical thinking, democratic theory and published two books on critical thinking and over 30 articles in the area of practical ethics, philosophy, education and critical thinking. In 2004 he presented a paper entitled "Business Ethics After Enron" at the World Congress of Philosophy in Istanbul and has been invited back to present a follow-up at the next Congress in Seoul, South Korea.
