Endorsements | Pathway 2

Antioch offers both Pathway 2 and Pathway 3 endorsement programs based on learning goals and essential academic learning requirements in Washington. Pathway 2 Requirements and Procedures

Pathway 2 is a fast-track method of adding an endorsement in a new subject area closely associated with your current endorsement. The state has set strict eligibility requirements for this program. In order to qualify for one of the Pathway 2 endorsements Antioch University offers, you must meet these criteria:

Eligibility Criteria

1. Hold an endorsement that is similar to the one being added.
2. Must have taught at least 90 days in your currently held endorsement area identified as a Pathway 2 option for the endorsement you wish to add. Consult OSPI list of related endorsements.
3. Employed as a fully contracted teacher or long-term substitute teacher by a Washington state public school or state-approved private school.

Steps to Apply

1. Request or download the application (PDF) for the Pathway 2 endorsement, complete and mail as directed on application.
2. Include $30 application fee and all supporting documents.
3. Complete 9 quarter credits at Antioch University Seattle in your new endorsement area:  Instructional Planning (3), Practicum (3) and Culminating Project (3).
4. Pass the PRAXIS II test.

The following is a list of Pathway 2 endorsements offered through Antioch and their corresponding Praxis II test numbers. The Praxis II test is required in order to add an endorsement to a teaching certificate. For more information on the Praxis II tests, please visit the Praxis Series website.

The cost of the program is $155 per credit for courses and $250 per credit for practicum. Once you have applied, you are assigned to an Antioch faculty member in the Center for Programs in Education who has expertise in the subject area and works with you one-on-one to complete the following three courses:

Instructional Planning (3 credits)
You create an exemplary instructional plan in the new endorsement area using the criteria described in the Pedagogy Assessment Tool (PDF).  You clarify and document your readiness to meet the prerequisites of the practicum and competencies required in the new endorsement area.

Practicum (3 credits)
This involves three to six weeks (30 hours) of supervised internship in a classroom appropriate to your new endorsement area. You also collect documentation to be used in your work samples for the exit portfolio. Six weeks prior notification is requested to assist you with identifying your mentor teacher.

Culminating Project (3 credits)
In this course, you prepare an exit portfolio, a collection of your instructional plans and samples of student work to document your content knowledge and teaching effectiveness.
