What directions have students taken with this area of concentration?
Students have tailored this area of concentration in a number of ways to fit their interest and academic needs. Some of these are global studies in relation to:

  • Nonprofit organizational studies
  • International activism
  • Leadership in a global society
  • Environmental interests and concerns
  • Cross-cultural studies
  • History, literature and/or philosophically focused studies

Is there a language requirement for this area of concentration?
Knowing other languages is not required but is highly recommended.

Will this area of concentration prepare me for graduate work?
Many of our students continue their studies in graduate schools either upon completing their B.A. degree or at some point during their career. With this in mind, we design each area of concentration to help you build the knowledge and skills you need for both completing your B.A. and for preparing you for graduate work.

Are there opportunities to put my global studies to use in the community?
Yes, we encourage you to design internships, independent studies or volunteer work to reflect your area of interest. Some examples of activities students have done are:

  • Foreign language interpreter
  • Global leadership project internship
  • Volunteer with immigration services
  • Independent study abroad
  • International business affairs intern
  • Advocacy work for environmental agency
  • Public relations intern
  • ESL tutor

Is it possible to take global studies courses without deciding if this is the area I would like to be my area of concentration?
Yes, you may take courses in this or any of the disciplines before you choose your area of concentration. Some students enter with a clear idea about their focus. Others do not. Your interests may start out fairly vague and gain in definition over time. You may begin the degree process with a set of general questions about certain topics or disciplines that pique your curiosity. As you move through the degree process, you develop a more focused sense for your academic specialization.

Can I complete more than one academic concentration?
Students sometimes find it desirable to complete a second area of concentration. In this case, only 35 credits are required as a minimum for the additional area.

How long does it take to complete my undergraduate degree?
Most students graduate from the B.A. completion program in two years or less. Completion of 180 quarter credits is required for graduation. These may include transcript credits from other colleges and universities, Antioch University credits and prior learning credits earned through Antioch's credit for life experience program. You must enroll for a minimum of four quarters and at least 36 current learning credits to get your liberal arts degree from Antioch.
