News ReleasesJune 16, 2009 Antioch University's Center for Native Education Antioch University's Center for Native Education (CNE) has received a grant from the Margaret A. Cargill Foundation, making it among one of the first grantees funded by the new Foundation. The award includes $10,000 annually for five years and an additional stock gift. "Antioch is honored to be one of the first recipients of the Margaret A. Cargill Foundation grant," said Cassandra Manuelito-Kerkvliet, president of Antioch University Seattle. "It is recognition for the outstanding success of CNE and its positive impact in Native communities." The CNE drew the attention of the foundation for its work with Native youth to improve high school retention rates and encourage college enrollment. The well-being of children and families was one of Margaret Cargill's strongest philanthropic passions and CNE's mission aligns with the foundation's goals. Margaret A. Cargill was the granddaughter of William Cargill, who co-founded Cargill, Inc., one of the world's largest agribusiness companies. The foundation supports a range of charitable purposes that were meaningful to Margaret A. Cargill, including the environment, the arts, disaster relief, children, education, teachers, tolerance and conflict resolution, families, animal care, American Indian culture and education, the elderly and health education for young people. When fully funded, the foundation will be one of the nation's 50 largest foundations. |
