Feb. 24 Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy Workshop

WHAT: A workshop sponsored by Antioch University Seattle for practicing clinicians and professionals working with adults with chronic recurrent depression. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is an innovative, clinically proven treatment that encourages patients to play an active role in preventing the return of depression. By integrating elements of mindfulness-based meditative practice with cognitive therapy, clinicians can help clients develop a detached relationship to distressing experiences.

WHERE: Antioch campus at 2326 Sixth Ave. in Belltown

WHO: The instructor is Anil Coumar, M.B.B.S., M.A., a trained medical physician in India and a mental health counselor. Coumar is director of the Mental Health Clinic, Hall Health at the University of Washington. He has led MBCT groups at the University of Washington for more than two years and has co-authored a chapter, “Mindfulness Meditation in the Prevention and Treatment of Addictive Behaviors,” in a new book to be published this year.

COST: $55 for participants, $25 for current Antioch University Seattle students (limited number of spaces on a first-come, first served basis)
