Position Summary
The Center for Programs in Education (CPE) draw on the current research and study the implication of that research for learning. All offerings in the CPE promote constructivist pedagogy, critical reflection about practice in our increasingly multicultural world, critical reflection about the social and political beliefs that influence institutions and commitment to social justice through transformative education. They emphasize close integration of theory and practice and reflect Antioch's commitment to social justice, whole-person learning and leadership for responsible educational change. Students come from diverse backgrounds and include managers, independent scholars, artists, homemakers and community activists.

Essential Functions/Accountabilities
The position involves individualized advising, undergraduate and graduate teaching, independent study supervision, and teamwork with faculty and staff. In addition, the position will require the redesign of math courses required for endorsements, program development and maintenance. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, participating in student admissions, faculty meetings and program developement and assessment. Faculty members are also expected to teach at off-site locations and to be active in campus, scholarly, professional and community activities.

Qualifications

1. Advanced degree in relevant area.

2. Experience with and demonstrated ability to work successfully in diverse/multicultural settings.

3. Demonstrated scholarly activities.

4. Elementary/middle school (K-8) teaching experience.

5. University or college level teaching.

6. Educational philosophy congruent with that of Antioch University Seattle.


Preferred Qualifications:

1. Ph.D. or Ed.D. in relevant area and successful university or college level teaching experience.

2. Demonstrated commitment to working for social justice and equity.

3. Fluency in a second language: Spanish, Chinese, Korean or Vietnamese.

4. Consultations with schools.


Supervision
Serve as liaison to other math methods teachers.

Environmental and Job Hazards
No unusual environmental or job hazards.

Physical and Mental Demands
This position may interact with various sources of information and with persons involved with sensitive or confidential issues. Persons in faculty positions must prioritize tasks with little supervision.
