| Position Summary |
Teaching, advising and student recruitment responsibility in an AATA-approved M.A. program in art therapy. Also involves assisting colleagues with program coordination and administration, as well as appropriate professional and scholarly activities. The School of Applied Psychology, Counseling and Family Therapy is an interdisciplinary graduate school offering the M.A. in psychology with specializations in art therapy; in child, couple, and family therapy; in mental health counseling; and in integrative studies in psychology. The Center also offers the Psy.D. in clinical psychology and maintains a community counseling and psychological clinic in which graduate students may take a portion of the clinical training. Faculty members in the Center are practitioner-scholars who are encouraged to maintain their own practices in their respective mental health disciplines as well as to teach, to conduct research and to assume responsibilities of colleagueship in a shared governance environment. |
| Essential Functions/Accountabilities |
Academic
- Teach in the Art Therapy (AT) and one other program – either Child, Couple and Family (CCFT) or Mental Health Counseling Programs. Course assignments will be made in consultation with the Psychology Programs Chairs and Director and in light of specific individual and Program needs. Full teaching load consists of six three credit courses per year.
- Provide advising to students in the AT and CCFT/MHC Program. Conduct admission interviews with applicants and make recommendations to the Program Chair regarding admissions decisions in individual cases; follow up with situations involving conditional admissions which require additional monitoring.
Administration
- Participate in regularly scheduled program meetings
- Serve, as requested by the Program Chair or Psychology Programs Director, on special committees and task forces for the Programs in Psychology.
- Serve as Teaching Liaison for several content areas in the AT and CCFT/MHC Programs.
Professional/Scholarly Activities
- Contribute to the creation and sharing of knowledge through active participation in dialogue with professional peers and colleagues in the discipline, profession and/or educational community.
- Participate in activities for professional development (conferences, seminars, workshops, courses) as relevant to areas of special expertise and interest.
- Engage actively in the clinical practice and/or supervision of therapy as licensed clinician in the State of Washington and Marriage & Family Therapist.
Community Activities
- Participate in community service activities, including various forms of professional practice and/or participation in community organizations.
Campus-Wide Activities
- Participate in regularly scheduled meetings of the Faculty Council and in related committee work.
- Participate in other campus-wide faculty and all-community events.

| Qualifications |
- Doctoral degree in psychology or allied field from an accredited institution and must be a registered art therapist (board certified preferred). Competency in child or family therapy, Clinical Member of AAMFT and AAMFT-approved supervisor status preferred.
- Licensed or licensable in Washington State.
- Prior teaching experience at the university level, preferably with an adult student population.
- Must demonstrate capability to work and teach effectively in a multiracial, multiethnic environment with students of diverse backgrounds.
